Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis may be a source of both confusion and fascination. Are you curious about what hypnosis is, but are uncertain as to what to do with it? When you get past the false ideas which surround it, it can be seen for what it really is - a natural state of mind and one which virtually anyone can use for their own benefit with the correct guidance.

What is Hypnosis? Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation which is natural, enjoyable and safe. It is a state of mind that allows the subconscious to surface, or the conscious to step aside. It can be somewhat like a deep day-dream. Having more open access to the mind also allows better therapeutic access to our problems. Under hypnosis you can become more receptive to ideas and suggestions than usual. Success of the treatment depends (as always) on the teamwork between the client and therapist. Hypnosis is a tool that can be used to change things for the better, and quite quickly.

How does it feel? Sensations of hypnosis vary from person to person, or certainly their descriptions of them do. It is usual to experience mild drowsiness together with pleasant feelings of comfort and well-being. You are, in fact, totally relaxed.

Would I be unconscious? Absolutely not! You are fully conscious and aware of where you are and what you are doing. You will be able to hear the hypnotist’s voice. Therefore, at all times you remain in complete control of yourself. You will not do or say anything that you would not elect to do of your own choice. It is a facilitating process, not an overpowering one.

Is it safe? Perfectly! It is wonderfully safe. Free from drugs and any sort of artificial form of treatment, it is a natural and beneficial experience. You are exposed to nothing but your own mind. As you are quite conscious, awakening you from hypnosis presents no problems. A qualified hypnotherapist has the professional training to know how hypnosis should be employed as well as when it should (or should not) be used. Your therapist’s qualifications are your assurance of safety. Remember, a good tool can help greatly to get a job done, but it still needs an experienced operator to bring a job to success.

Could I be hypnotised? Probably! Practically anyone can be hypnotised - some more easily than others. Everyone improves with practice and those who start slowly can, and often do, become better subjects than fast starters. All you need is a desire to co-operate with your therapist. You cannot be hypnotised against your will.

How can hypnosis help me? Hypnotherapy has been of enormous help in overcoming many annoying problems including smoking, eating disorders, anxiety, nail-biting, insomnia, tension headaches and migraine, phobia, asthma, bed wetting, sexual problems, self confidence, poor concentration, memory or sports performance, seminar and exam anxiety, pain management, etc. Because hypnotherapy works with your mind, it is the treatment of choice for problems which are influenced by the mind.
There is no single form of treatment which can be used successfully in all conditions. Hypnotherapy is no exception to the rule but it can be applied either as the main therapy or as an invaluable adjunct to a more appropriate form of treatment.

But what about my doctor? Your hypnotherapist is not in competition with your doctor. Hypnotherapists aim to work together with your doctor if possible. Why not ask your doctor if hypnosis could help your problem or contact Dirk Peek at Top End Natural Therapies if you are in the Darwin area of Australia?
